1 Millennium Place, Durham DH1 1WA, UK – 0300 026 6600
Lovely theatre and cinema complex in the heart of Durham city centre. The theatre is comfortable with good seating. A fairly steep slope to the auditorium means that most seats have unrestricted views of the stage, unless you are unfortunate to have a very tall person sitting directly in front of you. The bar area is quite small, but service is speedy and efficient. It can be a pleasant venue for a coffee in the middle the day. A good range of shows and musical productions are programmed every year. Durham Brass being a highlight of the music productions. The cinema although small by modern standards shows all the latest releases at very competitive prices.
The gala is going to struggle when the new theatres arrives. It's cinema comprises of two screens, one larger screen but very cramped and with uncomfortable chairs. The second screen is small, with chairs that can be folded down and pushed back like bleachers. The viewings are often peppered with cackling teenagers so that you can't hear the actual film, and no reporting this to staff will help. Prices of popcorn, sweets, drinks, are expensive, so if it's a family trip out prepare to spend quite a bit (or bring your own in a bag). The theatre section is better and has a variety of touring performances, from ballet to comedians. There is a private function room that can be rented, which is tidy, clean and well presented, though a little expensive to rent. The organisation might work on improvements once the new cinemas in the area open up.

Despite the projector cutting out halfway through the movie this is a great cinema with very reasonable prices. Pick and mix is also a good addition.
Good films for little money
